A crucial facet of any institution's stature is its ranking, a culmination of various indicators of excellence. UCI's prominence is evident in its designation as the 2nd top performer in social mobility, 9th top public school, 15th best college for veterans, and 48th for best undergraduate teaching. UCI also secures recognition for its innovative approach, ranking 40th as the best innovative school while also being acknowledged as the 182nd best value school.

UCI Acceptance Rate

Central to any prospective student's journey is understanding the UCI acceptance rate, transfer acceptance rate, and admission requirements that it entails. In the year 2021, the institution witnessed a staggering 107,957 applications from first-year candidates, ultimately selecting 31,269 individuals. This translates to an acceptance rate of 28.96%, a statistic that underscores UCI's status as the 12th most competitive university in California. The selectivity is further accentuated by the institution's high admission standards, with stringent GPA, ACT, and SAT score prerequisites.

A comparison between 2021 and 2020 reveals a gradual ascent in the UCI acceptance rate, with 2021 witnessing an uptick from 26.6% to 28.96%. In terms of transfer students, UCI embraces a transfer acceptance rate of 41.56%, comprising 31% of the total student body. This heightened threshold accentuates the competitive nature of UCI's transfer admissions. To bolster one's chances, aspiring transfers should target a 2.4 college GPA on the 4.33 scale and exhibit a 3.0 high school GPA.

UCI Score Requirements

Gauging the impact of high school GPA on admission underscores the significance of exceptional academic performance. An estimated freshman GPA of 3.92 out of 4 underscores the need to be an A+ student, and the associated acceptance rates reflect this rigor:

  • GPA 3.75+: 79% acceptance rate (Good)

  • GPA 3.50-3.75: 19% acceptance rate (Reach)

  • GPA 3.25-3.50: 1% acceptance rate (Reach)

  • GPA 3.00-3.25: 1% acceptance rate (Reach)

  • GPA 2.75-3.00: N/A (Low)

When pivoting to ACT scores, a minimum score of 33 becomes the benchmark for heightened acceptance rates, while scores below 30 are less favored. This reveals UCI's keen emphasis on academic excellence and a holistic view of applicants.

Similar to ACT scores, UCI's standards for SAT scores are demanding, with a preference for scores above 1430, significantly placing students within the top 20% of test-takers.

UCI's ideal candidate embodies traits of commitment and academic rigor,

exemplified by the pursuit of challenging courses such as honors, IB, or AP.

However, the institution stresses that grades alone aren't definitive; they are intertwined with a student's extracurricular activities, showcasing their passion and leadership. The personal statement or essay offers a window into the applicant's persona, aspirations, and the alignment of those aspirations with the chosen course of study.
